Who We Are | Baton Rouge Attorneys

Stephen Babcock Partner

Stephen Babcock is a native of Ruston, Louisiana. He earned a B.S. from Louisiana Tech University and subsequently received a J.D. from the LSU Paul M. Herbert Law Center. Martindale-Hubbell, the leading authoritative resource for information on attorneys worldwide, has given Mr. Babcock an AV rating, an indication of his exemplary legal skills, stellar reputation—and highly respected, well-established practice. Only 2% of the attorneys in the United States receive a Martindale-Hubbell AV rating. In addition, Babcock Partners is one of just 130 law firms in Louisiana to meet A.M. Best’s stringent standards for admission in the “Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Attorneys and Adjusters.”

Stephen Babcock was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2012 in the fields of commercial litigation (one of ten in Baton Rouge) and personal injury (one of three in Baton Rouge) (Copyright 2012 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, S.C.). Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which more than 39,000 leading attorneys cast almost 3.1 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas, and because lawyers are not required, or allowed, to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”

Since he founded Babcock Partners, Mr. Babcock has prided himself on taking a direct, down-to-earth, insightful—and proactive—approach with all of his clients. He is passionate about their cases, always gives them his undivided attention, and doesn’t rest until he can achieve the best possible outcome for them—all the while insisting they receive maximum value every step of the way. That is simply the way Mr. Babcock does business—and this style and conviction resonate in every matter that Babcock Partners takes on.

Mr. Babcock’s practice is based entirely on litigation of commercial business and personal injury matters. A seasoned trial attorney with experience in a wide array of matters, Mr. Babcock practice is exclusively federal and state trials, appeals and arbitration.  As a trial lawyer, he has represented clients as lead counsel in state and federal litigation, arbitration and mediation involving claims of fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference, defamation, business torts, products liability, insurance coverage, and professional negligence and serious and catastauphic personal injury cases, among others.

Speaking of being a seasoned trial attorney, Stephen Babcock is a member of the Multi-million Dollar Advocates Forum which is one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States.  Membership is limited to attorneys who have won multi-million dollar verdicts.  Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members.  While many lawyers talk about taking big cases all the way to the finish line, we do it.

Because he is an FAA-licensed pilot, Mr. Babcock is able to quickly access courts and clients across the Gulf Coast region. This ease and mobility greatly increase the firm’s efficiency, responsiveness and reach.

Lecture Topics
Mr. Babcock is a frequent lecturer on many legal topics including: Effective Motion Practice, Mediation and Arbitration, Business Organizations and Structure, Experts at Summary Judgment, Summary Judgment Motions in State and Federal Court, and Law Office Management.

On a More Personal Note

What’s more, Mr. Babcock’s passion for golf takes him all over the United States.
