Stephen Babcock has had one clear, non-negotiable goal since starting Babcock Partners: to create a new and different breed of law firm—one that rejects the inefficient, impersonal business model of many law firms and alternatively delivers superior legal and trial expertise in a resourceful, cost-effective, proactive—and hands-on—fashion.

Our approach

Our approach is noticeably different. While many law firms run television commercials and try to take every case that comes through the door, we take less than 5% of the cases we are presented with. This is because we don't aspire to be a large law firm with thousands of small cases.  We only take cases we believe we can win from clients we believe need us. We spend what most lawyers would think is an inordinate amount of time reviewing a case and all the facts before we agree to accept it. We typically spend between 10 and 50 hours reviewing a commercial litigation matter before we even agree to accept it.

After agreeing to accept a matter, our staff goes to work organizing the information into our litigation management and timemapping systems so that the picture of the events and the documents in that case becomes even clearer. After having a solid handle on the timeline, facts, documents and witnesses involved, we go to work to win your case.

Alternative fee options

Our entrepreneurial approach extends to the cutting-edge, flexible fee arrangements that we have always offered. We have a collaborative process in which payments and payment options are discussed upfront, so there are no surprises. We also create fee packages specifically tailored to each client’s situation, do not charge for most consultations and are particularly skilled at finding ways to share litigation costs with our clients. We often work on a contingency basis, in which we are paid solely for the results we produce, not our time.

Babcock Partners is able to operate in this way because we keep our priorities straight, staff lean, and use technology to our best advantage while avoiding inefficiency at every turn. For example, unlike many other firms, we rarely send more than one attorney to any single litigation event—be it a deposition, motion or trial. How many goliath law firms can say that?
